Funny the things you find when you Google your name...

Or, more correctly, your mum does. Remember I did a review of the Rhod Gilbert gig in Doncaster? Well I also sent a cut-down version to my local paper, but as their regular gig reviewer had also been to the show, obviously that review was printed. What I didn't realise was that they had actually put it on their website! Yay!

Nice!

But there's still the all-important question, close to every journalist's heart, did they pay you?

Cash = good
More cash = better

Our minds are very simple, really. ;-)

Yeah, I'd echo Rob. It's cool (and that's great) but get yourself into a position of getting PAID wherever possible!

I just emailed it in on the off-chance to be honest - they do ask for reviews so I gave it a go. Didn't really think anymore about it!

What I really meant to say was…
just get into the habit or else this will happen and that's not fun! Whereas cash is!

Thanks, yeah I know I need to watch for that :)

There's very little money in comedy reviewing anyway unless it's for the national press. There's not really many places you can ship a review like that around to start with. Even up at Edinburgh most of the reviews everyone puts so much stock in from the free papers and such are written by volunteers. And certain websites that do pay reviewers do so at a word rate which will make you cringe...
