We're huge Tom Lehrer fans in this house and the hilarious "Oedipus Rex" is a particular fav of mine (mostly for the contextual conversation he has with the audience in the live performance!)

I'd also add that 'the Element Song' was almost enough to make me wish I actually had studied science since I'd have loved an excuse to learn it!

Oedipus Rex is *definitely* one of my favourites too. Love it!

I grew up listening to my parents' recordings of Tom Lehrer. (My dad took them with him when he left, the rotter.) I now own The Remains of Tom Lehrer. They'll have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands.

What's worrying about Tom Lehrer is how few of his songs have dated. "So Long Mom (I'm Off to Drop the Bomb)" and "We'll All Go Together When We Go" are still damn scary ditties.

Favourites? Too many. Particularly love "Vatican Rag", "Smut", "A Christmas Carol", "I Hold Your Hand in Mine"...
As I said, way too many.

Have you heard the Neil Hannon cover of "I Hold Your Hand in Mine" ?
