The West End Is In Crisis! Again!

We might not agree with Michael Billington's (him again) 'yes-we've-said-it-before-but-this-time-it-really-is-in-crisis' conclusions, but he makes some good points along the way - particularly that the producing/directing talent seems to be going to the subsidised sector (eg Nicholas Hytner at the National, and Michael Grandage at the Donmar), and that quite a few West End theatres are in dire need of a face-lift.

I have to say that, although we have seen this all before (and as you say from Billington himself), the remarks you pick out are on the money. Having been in a few different London theatres over the years there are quite a few that would benefit from some serious refurbing.

Absolutely. I think the Wyndham's has seen a bit of cash, and we gound that a really comfortable theatre when we went to see Sunday In The Park With George.

Could be wrong....!
