I'm in a mild panic...

Why didn't I love The Shakespeare Code? Why didn't I love Gridlock? The Face of Boe was in that one doing his Star Wars 'there is another' thing for chrissakes!

Something's missing and it's not Rose (well it's Rose a bit, it doesn't seem Freema can really *do* warmth at the moment) it's something else... what is it, kids? Help me out here!

Agreed. They were good episodes but no spark. Have been blogging about it and I reckon it's ebcause (a) they are making the Doctor depressed, which doesn't work, and (b) we don't have a reason to get excited yet (series one was exciting because it was new, and series two because of the Doctor - Rose love story). Hope it will find its feet once we (and the Doctor) start to care about Martha more.

They're much better the most of the series 28 episodes.

Gridlock was dark and genuinely mysterious - plus there was no 'baddie' which means a nice change. Far too many episodes in series 28 had that apocalyptic feel where the Doctor has to save the world from an evil being. With so many different people writing episodes it all felt a bit 'my monster is better than yours'.

I've gotta say I really liked last series! Tooth and Claw, Girl in the Fireplace, School Reunion... all good stuff.

It's missing a weird humany cyclops-faced Dalek Sec. Oh yes.
